Resolved
by: Frank L. Cox
To be about my Father's business.
To keep a pure heart, a clear head, and a hand willing to do good.
To set my affections on things above.
To keep myself from idols-those things which hinder me in service to
God.
To fear nothing but sin and the danger of displeasing my Father.
To forget and forgive all injuries rendered me.
To be more intent in finding good than evil in others.
To refrain my tongue from evil.
To be my brother's keeper, lifting him up when he falls, supporting when
he is weak, and restoring him when he strays.

Let us Negotiate!
Author Unknown
A hunter raised his rifle and took
careful aim at a large bear. When he was about to pull the
trigger, the bear spoke in a soft, soothing voice, "Isn't it better
to talk than to shoot? What do you want? Let us negotiate
the matter."
Lowering his rifle, the hunter replied, "I want a fur coat."
The bear said, "Good, that is a negotiable question. I want a
full stomach, so let us negotiate." After a time, the bear
walked away alone. The negotiations had been successful. The
bear had a full stomach, and the hunter had a fur coat.
Satan says, "Let's negotiate." However, there are some
things that cannot be compromised. If we try to negotiate
with sin, we are deceiving ourselves and will fall into a trap that will
destroy us.

God Hath Spoken
by: W. P. Dennis
In Hebrews 1:1, we are told that God has spoken at many times and in
many different ways. He spoke directly to Adam and Eve in the
Garden of Eden. He spoke to Moses from a burning bush. God
does not speak today as in times past, for He "hath in these last
times spoken unto us by His Son."
God has revealed His word so all can understand. It would be
unreasonable to think that God has made the knowledge of His word
essential to our salvation and yet made it require miraculous aid to
understand it. This would make God responsible for every person
lost. This would also be in conflict with the basic teaching of
the
Bible.
When men fail to obey, it is because of man's own disposition and
attitude. It is not the fault of God. We are told in 2 Thess.
2:10 that "Some will not receive the love of the truth that they
might be saved." Sometimes we wonder why people do not obey
the plan of salvation when it is made so plain. Here is a big part
of the
answer: they do not love the truth.
Paul goes on to speak of some who "Take pleasure in
unrighteousness." Since God's commandments are God's
righteousness, this means they enjoy refusing to do what God has said.
What God has said in His word is well within the mental grasp of every
responsible person. The alien sinner must believe (Heb. 11:6),
repent (Luke 13:3), confess (Rom. 10:9, 10), and be baptized (Mark
16:16). We are not to add to nor take from this divine plan.

Any Responses Sunday?
by: Stanley A. Sayers
We
all rejoice when any come forward to be baptized into Jesus, confess
faults, rededicate an unfruitful life, or identify with the local
congregation. But so often the common usage of words becomes
hackneyed and near meaningless. "Were there any responses
Sunday?" What do we mean, really by RESPONSES?
Can you imagine a dialogue such as this? "Last Lord's day we
saw the greatest number of responses in the history of this
congregation, yet NOT ONE PERSON CAME DOWN THE AISLE."
Brother A was so moved by the sermon that he went home following worship
and, closing his door, got down on his knees and prayed as never before.
Brother B was so moved by the entire service that he got on the phone,
addressing every absentee in the membership.
Brother C was so pricked by conscience that before eating his noon meal,
he went straight to a brother with whom he had harsh words, asked
forgiveness, and together they prayed and then went out to lunch.
Sister D, during the morning prayer, silently asked God to help her
worship Him with a newness of spirit. The entire worship was such
an inspiration that brethren didn't want to rush home, but rather warmly
embraced one another and talked about Heaven! Responses continue,
for Sunday evening attendance has now equaled that of Sunday morning,
and mid-week service has grown fantastically beyond the fondest
expectation!
But greatest of all, the entire community is talking about "that
friendly church on the corner" where spiritual vitality has seized
the entire membership and people hasten to be among them, for Jesus is
there."

A Beautiful Life
by: Jewell Gastineau
If men in their youth
Follow the truth
And live by the Golden Rule;
If they give their all
To the Master's call
Making His word their school:
If they only speak
The things that are meek
And never become too proud;
If they hold their tongue
To those they're among
And never talk too loud:
If they shelter the cold
And comfort the old,
Those that are bad and good;
If they watch and pray
For those that stray,
Helping them as they should:
Then when they grow old
As their bodies are cold
And placed beneath the sod;
Their spirit shall rest
With those that are blest,
For they shall return to God.
And if there be some
That ask how they won
A rest from their toil and strife,
It's because they have done
The commands of the Son,
The author of the Beautiful Life.
Editor's note: Jewell (Joe) Gastineau passed away in 2000.
He was a lifetime member of the Lincoln and Tunnell Church of Christ.
He was an avid Bible scholar who taught many Bible classes and wrote
lessons for World Bible School. He truly lived the Beautiful Life.

The Bible
author unknown
Read then, but first thyself prepare
To
read with zeal and mark with care:
And when thou readest what here is writ,
Let thy best practice second it:
So twice each precept read should be;
First in the Book and next in thee.

All Are Welcome
We gladly welcome you to our congregation, trusting that if you are
seeking Christ you will find Him here. If sorrowing you will
receive comfort, if troubled in spirit you will gain the blessing of
peace, if discouraged you will rejoice in hope, if friendless you will
find companionship and Christian love. That these and other
blessings may
be yours is our prayer.
Editor's note: This was sent to me by a friend who had clipped it
from a bulletin many years ago. Although the author's name was not
on the clipping, I am including it because I think the message is
beautiful.

Gold Mines
----quotes & sayings
for bulletins and signs this issue
Get rich quick! Count your
blessings.
No one is poor who can by prayer open the storehouse of God.
The Bible that is falling apart usually belongs to someone who is not.
God promised us a safe landing, not a calm passage.
Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on your door
constantly.
